Mirlène Chery was elected in 2010 as the first female cooperative president in southwestern Haiti, and was subsequently re-elected to her post in 2013.
“A cooperative is like a foundation where all the members have the same height and the same width. We are without discrimination. We are all equal. Each member must have respect for each other. Love each other and have patience for each other.
I say to all my fellow cooperative members, stand up and let us think! Can we end our miseries? I say to all of you that the answer is yes! We can put ourselves together. We can hold our hands together. We will change our situation. We will not stay the same.”
